General description of the collection: The William C. Chase photograph collection consists of 259 photographs illustrating Major General Chase's career from the time he assumed command of the 1st Cavalry Division in mid-1945 through his retirement ten years later. The collection is heavy on the 1st Cavalry Division's activities in occupied Japan (1945-1948) with some coverage of General Chase when he was Chief of Staff of the Third Army (1949-1951). There are numerous photos of General Chase and his peers for the period of May 1951 to June 1955 when he was Chief, MAAG, Formosa. Several photographs of General Douglas MacArthur and other key officers of the Far East Command appear throughout the collection.
